The ROCK Ride Cycle Challenge
26th June to 11th July
The Rock Ride was a multi-charity cycle challenge from the Rock of Gibraltar to Stowe in Buckinghamshire. It took place between 26th June and 11th July 2010, with 10 riders representing six charities including PACE. For the route and further details see the ROCK Ride website
The ride began in Gibraltar, traveled through Spain and France, hopping across the English Channel, and then up through England to Stowe covering over 1500 miles.
The venture was devised and organised by Freemasons in Buckinghamshire.
PACE's two riders (see below) have raised over £5,000 from this amazing cycle challenge for our First Steps Fund. Enough money to pay for two of our early years children to complete one year at Parent and Child, and cover £1000 of their associated sensory needs equipment!

"I will be taking part in a mammoth charity cycle challenge from the rock of Gibraltar, back to Buckhinghamshire in support of PACE, a total of 1500 miles!
PACE does really important work helping children with cerebral palsy learn and be able to develop their own skills. Currently about one in every 400 children in the UK is affected by cerebral palsy.
I need to raise at least £2500, any donations appreciated no matter how small or large :-)

"Not only will I be covering over 100miles everyday, I'll also be cycling in the scorching July heat of Spain and Southern France...Oh, did I mention that we will also be riding over the mountains of the Pyrenees as well...Gulp?!
So, why am I doing it? As well as challenging myself, I'll also be raising much needed funds for PACE. PACE teach children with motor disorders such as cerebral palsy to retrain the active part of their brain to overcome their disability, and carry out everyday tasks which you and I would take for granted, such as walking unaided to the shops, or being able to pick up a cup. With the support of PACE, these children can go on to lead as independent a life as possible. Having visited the centre and seen the work that PACE do, I was inspired to raise funds for them, the way I see it, is that my challenge is only for 2 weeks, theirs lasts a lifetime!"
